SYNAPTICON AT ACTUATE 26 IN SAN FRANCISCO — SAFETY FOR HUMANOIDS, ACTILINK-JD, AND POSITRON SAFETY AI
On August 18 and 19, 2026, Actuate 26 —the conference on robotics development and physical AI organized by Foxglove—will take place at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. Synapticon will be there as a sponsor, presenting a talk on the functional safety of humanoid robots and holding meetings with development teams working on humanoid platforms.
PRESENTATION: WHY SAFE TORQUE OFF DOESN'T WORK ON TWO LEGS
William Habib, Safety Engineer at Synapticon, will speak on Wednesday, August 19, at 10:20 a.m. on the Breakout Stage. The title: "Safe Torque Off Doesn't Work on Two Legs. "
Behind this lies a problem that the industry has inherited from industrial robotics. If power is cut off to a robotic arm, it stops moving—that is the core of Safe Torque Off, one of the established safety functions. If power is cut off to a humanoid robot, it falls over. The safety concepts on which the industry relies therefore no longer apply to machines with two legs. William Habib explains what architecture must take their place and what this means for development teams building humanoid systems today.

ACTILINK-JD AND POSITRON SAFETY AI
The discussions on site will focus on two product lines:
ACTILINK-JD —Synapticon’s dynamic articulated actuators with single-stage planetary gearboxes, designed for the motion profiles of humanoid robots, robotic dogs, and exoskeletons. POSITRON Safety AI —the safety platform for AI-based robotics with three levels: Safe Motion for 30+ axes, Safe Human Detection based on redundant camera-based detection, and AI Behavioral Safety for semantic monitoring of the operational AI.
