EASY CABLE MANAGEMENT

Saves space and money

Only a hybrid Cable (EtherCAT + STO/SBC) and a single power supply cable (48V) are needed to build a multi-axis cobot. This saves lots of space inside the cobot and is much more economic.

Short motor cables between SOMANET Circulo and the motor ensure a safe and reliable environment inside the robot or cobot.

SAFETY FUNCTIONS

Safety functions provided by SOMANET Safe Motion in accordance with IEC 61800-5-2

STO - Safe Torque Off

Prevents the drive from unplanned restarting. This state is monitored internally in the drive. STO enables safe working and has a wide range of use with moving axes.

SBC - Safe Brake Control

Permits the safe control of a holding brake. The function is always activated in parallel with STO. The SBC function is used in conjunction with the functions STO or SS1 to prevent the movement of an axis in the torque-free state.

SS1 - Safe Stop

The SS1 function causes a motor to stop rapidly and safely and causes a standstill. SS1 is often used in press applications or on any application with larger loads.

SS2 - Safe Stop

The SS2 function shuts down a motor quickly and safely. When the motor is at standstill, a safe operating stop (SOS) is triggered. This function can be used in a vertical axis or any application where maintaining position synchronisation is critical.

SOS - SAFE OPERATING STOP

In this mode, the robot holds the current position

SMS - Safe Maximum Speed

SLS - Safely Limited Speed

Ensures that the drive does not exceed a defined speed limit. The speed is reliably monitored a defined fault response is activated if the set speed limit is exceeded. SLS is used if people are in the danger zone of a machine.

INTEGRATED BRAKE SYSTEM

SOMANET Circulo now comes with a BRAKE System preventing the motor from unwanted rotary motion.

  • Motor speed is reduced to a low level before the brake latches
  • The brake prevents the motor from unwanted rotary motion (e.g. in case of power loss)
  • The Circulo Brake System is a perfect match for application such as inside robot arms and mobile robots

WHY IS A BRAKE SYSTEM NEEDED?

The brake system’s latching solenoid is only activated when the motor drive  is disabled, or in the event of an emergency stop.

This brake system, which acts as a holding brake, prevents any movement of the robot. This prevents unwanted contact with the workpiece to be machined, just like unwanted contact between robot and human.
