The SOMANET Safe Motion allows to reach SIL3 PLe Safety over Fail Safe over EtherCAT and fits all SOMANET Servo Drives.
The SOMANET Safe Motion is physically mounted between the Processor Module and Drive Module. This enables the Safety extension to supervise, generate and receive safety critical signals without the necessity to change the existing hardware or introduce complex wiring to the solution. The SOMANET Safe Motion provides Safety Functions such as STO, SBC, SS1, SS2, SLS, SLP, SLT, which are all available via FSoE or I/O.
Integrating the safety functionality directly into drives has several benefits:
Less wiring – No need for long encoder cables through the entire robot arm. Traditional safety components like contactors can be removed
Fast response – offload safety handling from Safety PLC to individual drives
Faster power cycles – safe modes possible without removing high power to drive
Increased productivity – access machine in safety mode without shutting down completely
Cost saving – compared to traditional safety solutions
Increasing demand for Human-Robot-Collaboration calls for a new level of intrinsic functional safety of robot arms. Limited factory space benefits from advanced safety concepts, as robot cages can be avoided.
Autonomous mobile logistics experience a tremendous growth. In factory environments, where humans and mobile robots move alongside each other, advanced functional safety is key.
Interrupting production for machine maintenance can be very expensive. Safe motion control enables system designs that support interruption-free maintenance operations, benefiting total cost of ownership.
Safety functions provided by SOMANET Safe Motion in accordance with IEC 61800-5-2
